The College of Postgraduate Studies is the coordinating unit of all the Postgraduate Programmes of the University. The officers of the College include the Provost, Deputy Provosts, the Director and a host of administrative and technical staff.
The College of Postgraduate Studies shall be responsible to the Senate for the day-to-day administration and coordination of all the academic and professional postgraduate programmes, usually leading to the award of Postgraduate diplomas, Masters degrees (Academic and Professional) MPhil and Doctorate degrees.
This is to welcome All Returning and newly admitted students into postgraduate programmes of Bayero University, Kano (BUK). Postgraduate (PG) programmes have been offered and awarded by various Departments since 1977 when Bayero University became full pledge university. Prior to that, PG programmes were awarded by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, when BUK was then a College of ABU. The expansion of Departments in BUK also witnessed expansion in PG programmes over the years. As at 2024/2025 session, there are Six Hundred and Seventy Eight (674) PG programmes in BUK.
These comprises of Seventy (70) Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD’s), Fifty Five (55) Professional Masters, Two Hundred and Twenty Nine (229) Academic Masters (M.A, M.Ed., M.Sc., M.Eng., and L.L.M), and Three Hundred and Twenty (320) Doctorate (MPhil/PhD) programmes in various specializations. The emergence of African Centres of Excellence (ACEPHAP and CDA) has opened windows of opportunities for prospective students not only from within Nigeria but also from African Countries to patronize diverse and new fields in postgraduate studies in Bayero University. This has led to the emergence of BUK as the Third (3rd) Best University in Nigeria (2025 rankings), and the Best University in Nigeria in terms of International outlook based on the Times Higher Education (THE) global rankings over successive the years.
A new dawn has opened in postgraduate studies in BUK with a focus to ensure timely graduation of students with quality education in all our programmes. It is our belief and hope that all postgraduate students can make positive contribution to our university and the nation by benefitting from the diverse academic and personal opportunities being offered. At the Postgraduate College, we are always ready to support and motivate each student to attain his/her desired goal. Our doors are open to listen to your needs and problems with a view to assist and offer advice on ways and means to resolve obstacles that may affect smooth conduct of academic activities. We urge all PG students to be committed and determine to explore avenues and opportunities provided to support them in their academic pursuit.
